Malibu Lagoon State Beach
The Malibu Lagoon is where Malibu Creek meets the Pacific Ocean. Malibu's historic Surfrider Beach was one of the first places where modern surfing culture developed.
To the east, the famous Malibu Pier offers fishing, restaurants and views of the surf. At the Malibu Lagoon day use area, visitors will find picnic tables and nature trails, excellent for bird watching and the study of a unique tidal wetland ecosystem.
The Adamson House at Malibu Lagoon State Beach overlooks the Malibu Lagoon and Surfrider Beach. This showplace of Malibu historical artifacts is a California Historical Landmark that is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Designed by Stiles O. Clements in 1929, this Spanish Colonial Revival home contains the best surviving examples of decorative ceramic tile produced by Malibu Potteries. The home was built for Merritt Huntley Adamson and Rhoda Rindge Adamson, daughter of Frederick Hastings Rindge and May Knight Rindge—last owners of the Rancho Malibu Spanish grant.
The adjacent Malibu Lagoon Museum allows visitors to walk through the history of the area from the regional capital of the Chumash tribe, to the early Californio ranchos and later, the American gentleman’s ranches, to the birth of the surfing era. Museum docents give delightful tours filled with historical anecdotes.

Canceled: Marython Hike at Corral Canyon Loop Trail
Canceled due to weather: Marython Hike
Saturday, February 25 at 9am
Join us on a family and dog friendly easy 2.5 mile trail with tea/cake to follow at a nearby cafe. (family and dog friendly, easy 2.5 m trail)
Corral Canyon Loop begins at Sara Wan Trailhead, which is located just off PCH next to Malibu Seafood and Deli. They recently implemented a parking fee ranging from $5-$12 but many park along the PCH. Just be sure to read any and all parking signs.
The hike will begin at 9:00AM so it is recommended to come at 8:45AM to allow for brief introductions. The hike should take around 1.5 - 2 hours but that is dependent on group size and ability. Because this hike is unique in the sense that is an undeveloped area that features natural scenery and full of vegetation, the experience will be focused on getting closer to mother nature and getting to know one another. As such, the end time may be shorter or longer. We will start as a group and end as a group.
Please note, due to the recent rains, some parts may be wet and/or muddy. Appropriate footwear is highly recommended.
To get to the trailhead: Drive west on PCH and pull in to the parking lot on the north side of the highway next to Malibu Seafood Restaurant, 1.8 miles west of Malibu Canyon Road and half a mile before Corral Canyon Road.
For the post-hike social, we will meet at John’s Garden. It is located at 3835 Cross Creek Rd., Malibu CA 90265, which is a mere 10 minutes south of the trailhead. John’s Garden has a spacious outdoor area with picnic style tables and offers a variety of health foods. There is a nearby parking lot as well.
